PDAY In Ireland
Well, another week has come and gone all too quick. But it was a good week.
Sunday was Joel's Baptism, and it was really good. One of our speakers got sick and didn't show up so I was hurrying to prepare a talk on the Holy Ghost and then the Bishop actually stepped in and did it and did a really good job. But Sister Akello did an awesome job as well. I think it helped a lot too, for Joel, that she was African. Africans just can relate a lot easier to other Africans. But it was kind of funny to get into the font there are two doors one in the girls' bathroom and one in the boys. But Bishop sent his keys home with his wife after church that had the keys to those doors, so we got to the part for the baptism, and we were locked out. So, we had to wait for the bishop's wife to bring the key back to the church. But it turned out good. Elder Greer made cookies and we got some juice. But the spirit was really strong. I asked Joel afterwards how he felt. and he said, "how do you think I feel" and I said "really good" and he just got a big smile on his face he was really happy. So that was a good experience to see him make that step in his life. So that was probably the best part of my week.Friday morning we went over to Rose O'Reilly's house. Rose is probably 55 and has been an investigator for like 6 months. But has kept saying I know I need to be baptized but I'm not ready to make that commitment yet. Anyways also the last six months she has been going through Alcoholics Anonymous. But her and her husband have been doing really good they have been sober for six months. Anyways we went over there Friday morning and both Her and her husband were waisted. Her Husband, Joe, was drunk I think Rose just had a really bad hang over. But at first we were leery of going in, but we finally went in, and Joe continued to tell us that he was reading the paper and the obituaries, and he saw that his son, who he had had before him and Rose got married, had overdosed and was dead. So that started him drinking again. Then Rose came home and saw her husband drinking and then found out that he had a son that he never even told her about, and she started drinking. So, when we got there they were both three sheets to the wind and were devastated to have fallen off the wagon. So, we kind of tried to talk to them but I don't think anything was going in they were too out of it. They kept saying the same things over and over again. So, we have been going over about every other day since then and every time we're there now they just thank us over and over again for coming. They need us now. Maybe this will be the thing that helpes them rely on us and the Lord and will be life changing thats what we are hoping and praying for. Joe kept staying can I go down to your church and be baptized now? Of course he was out of it, but we just kept telling him we'll teach him and then he can be baptized later. But it broke my heart to see them like that. They are such good people when they aren't drinking. They have two kids still at home and I worry about them as well. A 13-year-old boy and a 16- or 17-year-old girl. So hopefully we can help them get over this again. Yesterday I went back over there, and they had been a day and a half without a drink and they were going to AA again so that gave us hope.
Other than those two things a pretty normal week seeing the same old people. Well next Tueday is moves call (we get transfers every 6 weeks, so technically you have 8 moves a year) and I am ready. I think for sure either I will get a new companion and stay in my area or get moved to a new area. So, either one I think I will be okay with. I would like to stay one more moves where I am and get a new companion, so we'll see what happens. My trainer has been good but I need a new companion.
Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAGEN this week, next Tueday, big 16 Crazy! I hope you have a good one.
Thanks this week to Mom,Dad, Grandma H., Lindsay, Jamie, Jeannette and Family, Tycee Peters, and Ashley C., for the letters. I also got another one from Jamie that was sent on August 25th that was missent to the Phillipines so that was kind of funny. Also thanks for the emails Wyatt, Jamie, Aunt Marsha, Speedy, Sister Bigler, Aunt Kathy, and Aunt Pam.
It's getting really cold here so I am bundling up more and more. Every once in a while we get a good day but it's usually pretty cold. It hasn't snowed yet just rain.
I hope you guys have a great week. I love and miss you guys.
